Book 1: Peacemaker Series

aurealis-awardVirgin is a ranger in Birrimun (Big) Park, a huge natural landscape reserve in the middle of a sprawling coastal megacity. The park has been created to preserve Australia’s changing natural habitat, and to bring tourism to an over-urbanised world.

Virgin’s duties are to maintain public safety and order in the park, but Parks Southern have brought out a hotshot cowboy from the US to help her catch some drug runners who’re affecting tourism.

Virgin senses her boss is holding something back from her, and isn’t keen on working with an outsider, especially one as laconic and old fashioned as Nate Sixkiller.

When she sees an imaginary animal (a wedge tail eagle she calls Aquila) that hasn’t been around since she was a troubled teenager,Virgin knows its re-appearance means one of two things: she’s having a breakdown, or it’s a warning.

Dead bodies start piling up around her and Nate. Something terrible is about to happen in the park that threatens the basis of human belief systems. Reviews for PEACEMAKER.

Reviews

The first is from the Book Plank and here is a snippet from it. ‘Marianne de Pierres really shows that she has some great skills when it comes down to both writing in an addictive way and creating an engaging environment…the sequel can’t come soon enough.’

Peacemaker (Peacemaker #1) is Marianne de Pierres’ new novel out from Angry Robot Books. With a combined setting of both future Australian mega-city and Wild West style landscape expanse, Peacemaker dips its toes into multiple genres. With such a unique and interesting setting to play with the question of whether this is too much for the story is present from the offset. However, de Pierres manages to keep everything in check while delivering a quick and action packed story.’ SFFWorld

‘The mixing of almost a dozen genre’s may seem weird, but it’s not just a gimmick as de Pierres really uses this mix to craft a unique story.’ Fantasy Book review

‘Peacemaker is definitely a cut above the standard for books of this type: intelligent, witty and with a good heart. If you’re looking for a fast read that surprises and engages, then look no further.’ Newton Review of Books

‘This was a great read. It was my first book by Marianne de Pierres and I can only say it will definitely not be the last.’ Book reviews and More

Peacemaker was an enjoyable read and I highly recommend it to fans of near-future SF, urban fantasy set in the future and future-Westerns. I’ll definitely be picking up any sequels that happen…’ Tsana reads

On Amazon, Sporadic Reviews says, ‘This book has great characters and character interactions, an interesting setting and world building, and so much possibility. And pretty much no one is who they seem at first glance, or at least everyone has secrets. Great ending too: satisfying, but leaves room for sequels.’
