My mate and bestselling author Jenny Fallon is gradually getting her writers’ centre underway. Visit the website and investigate her online mentorships.

From Jenny’s website: Built in 1915, the historic Reynox House – located in the centre of NZ’s arts hub, Oxford – has been a guest house, a shop, a gallery and the location for a TV makeover show.

In the 21st century it has a new, exciting purpose, as a centre of inspiration for writers the world over.

Now owned by author Jennifer Fallon and her family, Reynox House will host residential writers’ retreats each year, catering for up to 10 writers.

Each 7 day retreat comprises daily lectures by international bestselling authors, time to write in the most glorious and inspirational surroundings, a chance to solicialise with other authors, both published and yet-to-be-published, and, if your manuscript is ready for submission, maybe even a chance to pitch your work to industry professionals.

The Writers Centre will also be undertaking a series of online seminars and casual workshops and Master Classes in conjunction with Supanova in Australia

Please email us at ad***@******************at.com if you are interested in attending or just wish to be kept updated about the online seminar details.

Thanks to my music-obsessed YA site manager, Bec Stafford, I’m collecting a soundtrack to help me with the planning stage of Cowpunk – the Series. Eclectic so far, I know, but each artist is giving me a little bit of what I need to ignite the creative supernova. Recs accepted and acknowledged. I’d prefer you leave them here to Facebook so I can keep track of them. So far I have Psychobilly Freakout by Reverend Horton Heat (True Blood on speed) and Crystal Frontier by Calexica (from Bec). House Rules by Kane (from me and Rena) and Nosebleed Section by Hill Top Hoods (me – SO love the energy in this clip).

I’m overjoyed to say that my wonderful agent and equally wonderful publisher are sick of me wibbling on about my cowpunk story and have told me to go and write it so they can see if they like it. My fingers are itching to start clickety clicking but first I’ll get out my Timeline Cowboys series and my Zane Grey’s and enjoy a bit of genre submergence (???). Stephen Dedman has also recommended the anthology Razored Saddles. If anyone’s read any good modern weird westerns, please sing out. Skull Full of Spurs looks interesting, and here’s a great review from IO9 for the new Cowboys and Aliens movie:

“Along with the rest of the crowd, I was left breathless and wondering how this would all play out. Will this be hard science fiction, or more fantastical like the Indiana Jones series? What will the aliens look like? Is Harrison Ford actually playing a bad guy? And Daniel Craig as a cowboy? Sign me the fuck up. Seriously – I predict that this film, based on a comic book by Scott Rosenberg, is going to be mindblowingly awesome when it comes out this time next year.”
