OK, well I’m not quite fifty … but soon. Interestingly, I seem to have had a huge fan girl resurgence for television. It’s kind of weird and I think something to do with the fact that I no longer drink. Aside from the fact that I’m actually awake in the evenings now, instead of snoozy from pre-dinner drinkies, I seem to get great pleasure from listening to endless TV storytelling. I currently don’t find that enjoyment in movies, yet as a teenager I was movie mad. From a writer’s POV I think there is some truly excellent work going on in television – so much so that I wish I’d had the opportunity to work in that medium. Not that I would ever leave novel writing permanently. My sanity wouldn’t allow.

Anyway, tell me what you all think. Is it just me, or has TV really gotten better?

Because its necessary to cross things out to stop from panicking… Trouble is the list has grown!

Over at Torque Control, Niall Harrison has compiled the list of authors nominated in his polls and you can read it here. Niall’s effort to bring some attention to some of this great work is much appreciated and applauded. Support him and us by going to his site and perusing the list. Or even better … making note of and reading some of them.

This poll comes at a time when I’m writing an introduction for Twelfth Planet Press’s new Twelve Planets series which will showcase more talented Australian women writing in the field of SF. I couldn’t be happier than to be doing this particular task, and hope that the next time Niall Harrison (or anyone else) conducts such a discussion that many of the Twelve Planet authors will be mentioned in it. If they are, then we will have done our job!
