As part of Helen Lowe’s guest author series, celebrating the launch of her new novel, Heir of the Night, my thoughts on why I love spec fic are now up for you all to read and ruminate over. Perhaps you feel the same way? Perhaps you don’t? I’d be very interested to hear your thoughts.

The series has been really interesting and has featured a bunch of great Antipodean authors including Nicole Murphy, Gillian ‘Pink Fluffy’ Polack, Annie Hamilton, Tim Jones, Juliet Marillier, Kim Falconer and MORE.

I’m just about to be featured on Helen Lowe’s blog series which has been absolutely fantastic. So fantastic, in fact, that IO9 picked up Tim Jones’s post and did an article on it. As you know I’m a big fan of Ballard’s writing and Tim’s reference to The Drowned World was spot on. If you’re looking for a prophet then The Drowned World and The Burning World are there waiting for you to dip in.

Helen’s series is to celebrate the release of her book Heir of the Night which you can read all about here.

Conquest was an intimate, well run convention held at the Park Regis last weekend. It was lovely to see some familiar faces and catch up with friends. Got to talk fandom with Julie Gormly in the dealers room and sold several copies of Glitter Rose and Dark Space. My talk centred aroud the business of writing and was followed by a panel with other guests, KC (Kylie Chan aka pocket rocket), Cory Daniells, Andrew Warrilow and Trent Jamieson. We waxed lyrical about the things that had fed our imagination over the years. I had to dash off but the other stayed and gave workshops and more talks. Thanks to Debbie and Leo and the Julli collective who kept the con afloat this year and did a wonderful job. I highly recommend you attend next year.

In other news, I did an interview with 3RPP today as Marianne Delacourt and will post links when it’s going to air.

I’m also working on my blog post for Helen Lowe, whose new book has just been launched by Orbit. That post will be up in the next week. Make sure you check out Helen’s new book, everyone is raving about it!
