Booker rocks!
26-Oct-2008Beloved couldn't come home this weekend, so contemplating a weekend without him I visited JB hiFi and bought BSG series 2 (I know, better late than never) and more importantly, spotted Booker on DVD.
Richard Grieco was one of the most gorgeous men you could ever wish to lay your eyes on, but when it came time to watch it last night, I felt some trepidation that it wouldn't be as good as I remembered. Lemme tell you peeps, IT WAS. I'm just loving it (how could you not love something that begins with a Billy Idol song as it's theme music?).
There's something about certain TV shows from the eighties that conveyed a kind of big city angst and lonliness that I find quite fascinating. Moonlighting and Wiseguy gave me the same feeling. The characters in these shows are dispossessed, isolated and reaching out for emtional connection. Interesting reflection of the time in which they were made.
I don't think Booker did as well as Jump St - and I can see why, it's much darker. A bit like Buffy and Angel. I'm an Angel fan over Buffy any day.
I tell you what, if I ever get a say in casting one of my books to movies, Richard Grieco is still top of my list. Latin looks and Irish charm is pretty hard to beat - the camera loves him, and the man can act.
Stephen J. Cannell is responsible for producing some really interresting stuff over the years. Did anyone see Marker? I'm keen to find out about it. One season only, starring Grieco again.
